Anárquico, el gato no reconoce dominio distinto al de la convivencia, en la que se sabe sujeto conciliable y en igualdad de condiciones. Los brutos los llaman "territoriales", pero un gato nunca domina un territorio; más bien se asume en él, y se asombra y adapta ante los cambios. May Sarton observa que ante el regaño autoritario el gato no mueve un músculo; actuando como si no escuchara nada o, me atrevo a imaginar, como si no reconociera en nosotros autoridad alguna. No se presta a la doma ni a la correa; algo de gato le falta al gato encadenado, algo de sojuzgamiento le sobra y le ofende, como si algún otro inferior a él desconfiara de su mesura y de su entereza. Su lealtad es una afirmación, no algo que le hayamos robado a fuerza de convencimientos mezquinos. En suma, el gato actúa como los libres y los amantes; en cuanto perciben un sesgo de dominio, y no sin pesadumbre, se van.
Anarchical, the cat does not recognize other domain than coexistence, in which he asumes himself as a conciliable subject and on equal terms. Brutes call them "territorial", but a cat never dominates a territory, rather he assumes himself on it, and is amazed and adapt to changes. May Sarton notes that facing the authoritarian scolding the cat does not move a muscle, acting as if he heard nothing or, dare I imagine, as if he do not recognize any authority from us. He doesn't lends himself to dressage or strap; a cat chained lacks something of a cat, that subjugation offends him, as if some lesser form of life distrusted his restraint and his integrity. Their loyalty is a statement, not something you have stolen them through the force of petty convictions. In short, the cat acts as the free and the lovers; as they perceive any sort of domain, and not without regret, they leave.
